The Medical College of Wisconsin is a private, national institution that was founded in 1893 under the name Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 1913, the Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Milwaukee Medical College joined to become the Marquette University School of Medicine. In 1967 the school changed to a private, free standing institution and in 1970 it was renamed The Medical College of Wisconsin.
